Sixty-eight women, human rights and development organisations yesterday expressed their concerns about the gradual increase of incidents of violence against women across the country.

Under the platform of “Samajik Protirodh Committee”, the organisations said the perpetrators go unpunished which leads them to repeat offences, said a press statement signed by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) President Ayesha Khanam.

The organisations, citing statistics of BMP, said in the first six months of the year, there had been 304 rapes, 82 gang rapes, 45 murders after rape, 127 murders for dowry, 90 incidents of violence for dowry, and 80 suicides, among other incidents of violence against women.

The platform placed a six-point demand, including social rejection of rapists. They urged the government to provide legal help to female victims of violence.
