SOUTH ASIANS IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF MYANMAR

Two years have passed since the military coup occurred on 1 February 2021 in Myanmar. The situation in the country has degenerated rapidly. At present, the country is mired in civil conflict. Myanmar’s military has increased use of violence to curb the peoples’ resistance which has turned into an armed struggle.

The response of the international community has been slow. The UN Security Council is yet to follow its recent resolution on Myanmar with a comprehensive and ongoing plan of action. ASEAN’s response has also been unhurried.

SAHR, representing South Asians, stands together with the people of Myanmar who have risked their lives in demanding peace and political independence. We support their demands to restore the democratic order and for Myanmar’s elected leaders to be released immediately.

As a part of SAHR’s initiatives to strengthen the call of the people of Myanmar, we will be uploading published newspaper articles and statements related to the coup and the current situation in Myanmar on this web page.
