While claiming that the disappearance of any journalist anywhere is a matter of concern, the United Nations yesterday said the letter from the relatives of Sri Lanka’s missing journalist Pradeep Eknaligoda is ‘now being reviewed’ by its  New York office.

Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Martin Nesirky, told the daily UN media briefing in New York that “the letter to the Secretary-General, which was transmitted to New York by the UN Resident Coordinator in Colombo, had been received.” He also said the letter was also channelled to colleagues in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. “The letter is now being reviewed. We’ve asked for an update on this and will let you know when we have it,” Mr. Nesirky said adding that “the disappearance of any journalist anywhere is, of course, a matter of concern, and not just to the Secretary-General.”
