Bridges, not boundaries: South Asia must lead on human rights

At a joint regional conference organized jointly by HRCP and South Asians for Human Rights on 26–27 July 2025, rights activists, artists, writers, and academics from across South Asia came together to chart a new path for human rights in the region. Titled ‘Bridges, Not Boundaries: Building Regional Rights-based Movements in South Asia’, the conference emphasized the urgent need for cross-border solidarity amid rising authoritarianism, shrinking civic spaces and threats to democracy.
Read the conference report to understand the range of issues that South Asia needs to confront, from the marginalization of religious and ethnic minorities and the rise of nationalism and populism, gender apartheid in Afghanistan and the continuing struggle for women’s rights, to climate justice, equitable development and regional cooperation to protect vulnerable communities.
