An investigation into the case of suicide of Dhaka University student Hafizur Rahman has revealed worrying information. It is assumed that consumption of the most dangerous drug LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) has led him to commit suicide.
Police have found evidence of LSD consumption while investigating this mysterious case. They have arrested three private university students on the allegation of selling LSD. Although various tactful ways are being adopted for smuggling these drugs to the country, there is no attempt to stop these criminal activities.
Two more criminal incidents occurred within a short time after Hafizur’s suicide. A woman was gang-raped in a running bus on her way from Manikganj to Dhaka. The police have arrested six people in connection with the incident.
Criticism exploded in India, after a picture of a young woman being molested by four miscreants in Bangalore went viral on social media. At first it was thought that the victim was from the northwestern part of India. The state police of Assam even announced a reward for finding the culprits. However, it was revealed later that all the four accused and the victim are Bangladeshis. Indian news outlet Deccan Herald quoted Bangalore police as saying, those four involved in the incident have been arrested on the allegation of molesting the woman. They also rescued the victim.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed at Hatirjheel police station against TikTok Hridoy, the mastermind of this criminal racket, and his associates. According to the relatives of the victim, the woman was taken to India a year ago. Bangladesh Police has contacted Bangalore police for the extradition of those molesters. The girl was taken to Bangalore, India by members of a TikTok group in the name of giving her a lucrative job in the Middle East.
This TikTok culture and the recent trend of teen gangs are two major destructive ways to mislead our youth.
The criminal activities of these TikTok groups have now spread beyond the borders of the country and it is not unnatural for domestic and foreign traffickers to collude with them.
This incident in Bangalore raises many questions. First, how did these miscreants go to India when the normal communication between the two countries is closed due to the coronavirus pandemic? If they did not have any passport or visa, how could they get into India despite the presence of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in both sides?
Human traffickers reach their destinations safely and commit various crimes by crossing the same border where cattle smugglers are being killed without trial by the BSF.
The Bangalore police have rescued the girl and arrested the miscreants. They deserve thanks from us for that. Now it is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to bring the girl back to the country and arrange medical treatment for her. At the same time, they should extradite those four involved in the case and bring them to book. It would not be difficult as we have extradition treaties with India.
All the six accused have been arrested in connection with the incident in Ashulia. They should also be brought to book as soon as possible.
