South Asians for Human Rights

Promoting Democracy, Upholding Human Rights

SAHR pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the apostle of non-violence on his 140th birth anniversary. The message of peace, love, harmony, and non-violence remains relevant for the world and particularly for South Asia, which has seen the rise of communal politics. There is a need for us to demonstrate a strong commitment to defending humanist values, and to widen our consciousness of human rights. In the words of the Mahatma, ‘You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty’.

The preacher and practitioner of simple living is still relevant especially when the world is faced with cataclysmic devastation resulting from climate change. This is a time to once again follow his teaching of simple living, reduce wastage, and promote love between human beings. On the 140 birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, SAHR once again reaffirms its commitment to  promote peace, harmony, democracy, secularism and human rights. We would also like to appeal to everyone in the region to contribute to making South Asia a better and safer place for all.
