The war crimes tribunal has cautioned Human Rights Watch over its comment on the conviction of top war criminal Ghulam Azam.

The International Crimes Tribunal 1 headed by Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order disposing of the contempt rule against HRW on Thursday afternoon.

Warning HRW, the tribunal asked the rights body to be cautious in making further comment on the tribunal and its trial process.

HRW on August 16 published a report titled “Bangladesh: Azam Conviction Based on Flawed Proceedings” on its website.

The tribunal 1 on July 15 sentenced Ghulam Azam to 90 years’ jail for masterminding war crimes during the 1971 Liberation War. Both prosecution and the defence have filed appeals at the Appellate Division challenging the verdict.
