A high level coordination meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) yesterday agreed to maintain peace along the border.
The six-hour long sector commander-DIG level meeting was held at the Roads and Highways rest house near Sangram Border Outpost of BGB on Sylhet-Meghalaya frontier.
The meeting discussed different border related issues, including smuggling, trespassing, land disputes, and border security arrangement, said Battalion Commander of 5-BGB Lt Col Md Shafiul Azam.
India has recently set up a new sector based in Zoai border area of Meghalaya, he said, adding that both the sides discussed ways and means to maintain a peaceful situation on the Meghalaya-Sylhet border.
A nine-member Indian team entered Bangladesh through Tamabil Internbational Check Post at 10:30am. The delegation included PC Sharma, deputy inspector general (DIG) of newly formed Zoai Sector of BSF, A Ashthana, DIG of Shillong sector, and four battalion commanders.
Col Md Khairuzzaman, Sylhet BGB sector commander, led a seven-member team, which included Lt Col Azam and 8-BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Abu Bakar Siddique.
